|
|
| Patient Registration | top |
| We are always please to welcome new patients to our practice. If you wish to join the practice please telephone the receptionist to make an appointment with the doctor of your choice. You will be asked to bring your medical card with you to this consultation (if you are unable to locate your medical card we will supply you with a form to complete in order to obtain a duplicate card). | |
| Seeing Your Doctor | top |
| Each patient in the practice is free to choose which doctor they wish to consult and to choose which surgery is most convenient for them. We operate an appointment system for consultations and try to ensure that patients obtain an appointment on the same day as requested. However, we would ask patients to telephone or call at the surgery as early in the day as possible to obtain an appointment with the doctor of their choice. If the surgery is fully booked we will still try to see patients if they consider that an urgent appointment is required. Please note each appointment is for one person only. While we endeavor to keep surgeries running to time, inevitably, due for example to urgent calls, you may occasionally have to wait longer than usual. In the event of you being kept waiting longer than 30 minutes for a booked appointment you will be given an explanation. | |
| Home Visits | top |
| Home visits are for patients too ill or frail to attend surgeries. Please try to request home visits by 10.30 am This allows the doctors to plan their calls efficiently. If the patient needs to be seen urgently please let the receptionist know. | |
| Night and Weekend EmergenciesDalriada Urgent Care | top |
| We, in common with almost all doctors in the Northern Ireland Board, are part of the “Dalriada Urgent Care” scheme. In the case of a emergency that cannot wait until your own doctor is available, contact the Maine Medical Practice on our usual number (028 25) 882222 and your call will be automatically redirected or you will hear a recorded message advising the number you should call. A doctor will always be available. Please remember that this service is only staffed to deal with urgent calls and it should only be used if there is a problem that cannot wait until normal surgery hours. Please do not go directly to the Dalriada Urgent Care Centre without an appointment as this service is by invitation only and the doctor may be out on an urgent call. Please remember for any life-threatening emergency you should still dial 999 and ask for an ambulance in the usual way. | |
| Repeat Prescriptions | top |
| If you need regular prescriptions and your doctor does not need to see you every time, you can be issued with a repeat prescription. We use a practice computer to check and print repeat prescriptions and would ask, where possible, that you allow 48 hours before collection of prescriptions. You may make your request for a repeat prescription in the answerphone mail box, by internet, by letter to the practice, or by fax. Please do not telephone for a repeat prescription unless you have no other method. Prescriptions ordered on Friday will be available on Monday afternoon. Patients on repeat prescriptions will be invited to the surgery for periodic checks as required. | |
| Test Results / Telephone Advice | top |
| The doctors review all results on a daily basis and note what action (if any) needs to taken. Please phone for results between 10.00 am and 5.00 pm If you need to speak to the doctor, the receptionist will advise. If you wish to speak to the doctor you may do so in the Telephone surgery from 11.00am to 12.00 noon. Please note: In case of a genuine emergency the doctor will always be able to speak to you; if this is the case please let the receptionist know. Please also note, however: in general we do not take calls through the surgery as this is a distraction for both the doctor and the patient during a consultation. | |
| Change Of Personal Details | top |
| If you change your name, address or telephone number please let us know at reception as soon as possible. | |
| Teaching | top |
| Our practice is committed to training and education. We are a training practice for doctors and medical students. If you feel you might be embarrassed by the presence of another person during your consultation a request to consult the doctor alone will be accepted without question. Again you will be informed if this is going to happen and you are entirely free to decline this request. | |
